Before completing this article which i started about 2 weeks ago, I have read a couple similar news across continents on intrafamilial abuse/rape by biological parents, close relatives and "friendly neighbors". The news about rising cases of violence against women also didn't escape my notice. Check out this few recent headlines with more details at the end of this page;

- 4 year-old pupil in Niger state identifies staff who defiled her inside school toilet
As a parent/ward, especially victim's parents will keep asking if they didn't do enough to prevent the sexual abuse, often spanning into several or a couple of years, right under their watch?
You also want to give your child a good start in life, nurture and protect them, and ultimately prepare them for eventual independence.
However, preventing child sexual abuse becomes tricky given that every parent are putting in alot of time and efforts in securing the safety of their children financially. Another twist to child sexual abuse is that the molester is within protective walls yet being violated by their so-called protector/s.
Although poverty has contributed to the children and adolescents vulnerability, children from middle and high income have equally fallen victims. For some parents, they didn't see it coming.
The unending rise in new cases of sexual abuse has lifespan psychological implications, regardless of your race or color.
What are we not doing right, as a society and at individual level?
There are many things you can do to help them along the way and to help you feel more fulfilled in your role as a caregiver.
The lack of awareness/sex education and open communication between a child and their parents is one of the biggest obstacles to preventing sexual abuse. Other factors are adequate national/accurate data on the abuse, rapid response system for treatment, prevention and care strategies by governments and parents/guardian are some major challenges.

South African man fed his friend's 2-year-old daughter bottle of milk before raping and strangling her to death
On the 28th of February 2016, just a few days after her 2nd birthday, Zaakierah Hendricks was raped and brutally murdered by Simons. He is a friend of the family and was the soccer coach for under-7s at a club in Manenberg.
Forensic evidence, such as DNA test results, have delayed the arrest of the suspect in the murder of the toddler. Willie Simons was taken into custody a month ago after police tested the DNA of 14 men who had lived on the property where Zaakierah was found dead, and his DNA came up positive.

She said she trusted him because he was her friend and he also coached soccer players in the community. Zayda says Simons had offered to look after Zaakierah for her.
“My son’s father was looking after him and my mother was not available. Willie heard me talking to someone that I didn’t have a babysitter and offered to look after Zaakierah,” she says, crying.
Zayda says when they left, Zaakierah was already asleep. She returned home the next day, “between 7am and 9am”.
“I saw Willie standing outside and he said the child was still sleeping and that she was at the back (bedroom) I walked inside the house and spoke to the (home) owner and told her about the night we had and she said the child is at the back.” “When I touched her hand, she was ice cold,” Zayda says.
A relative was called to try and resuscitate the child who was still breathing, and she was rushed to hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. Zaakierah’s paternal grandmother, Jeanette Daniels, 62, had said: “They said there were scratches on her neck and when we went to look at her body at the mortuary, we knew something bad had happened to her.
In court papers presented last Friday, it was revealed that Simons allegedly fed Zaakierah a bottle before raping and strangling her. “The accused took the deceased to Felicia’s Wendy house on the premises to lay her down to sleep,” the indictment read.
“The accused had the key to Felicia’s Wendy house. The last time the deceased was seen alive was when the accused gave her bottle. The deceased’s mother returned the next morning, 28 February 2016. She found the deceased on Felicia’s bed under a blanket. The post-mortem examination revealed the deceased died due to strangulation and had a gaping anus with pubic hair protruding from it.”
The State said it had damning DNA evidence against Simons.
An ex-police officer and Barrister, Monday Joseph Ebowemen, is being prosecuted in court after allegedly defiling his 15-year-old niece and aborting two pregnancies in quick successions at the Ajah area of Lagos State, Nigeria.
The perpetrator, who is the teenager’s maternal uncle and the owner of Scorpion Security, was said to have impregnated her twice from age 14 and aborted the fetus.

According to THISDAY, “The child is currently in an undisclosed orphanage in the state. Her mother, Mrs. Mary Ebowemen, warned her not to show up at the house if she appears in court for the hearing.”
12 year old girl raped and impregnated by her father in Ghana gives birth via CS
On Thursday September 6, 2018 a 13-year-old girl raped by her father gives through CS at the Ga South Hospital in Accra. The girl’s father impregnated her after she took her from her mother in the Western Region at the age of 12.Tima added that aside Ama who recently gave birth, the man was also sleeping with his 10-year-old daughter who is currently under medication following the man’s illicit acts.
Reports suggests that Ama’s father has since been jailed for 29 years-(Source Adomonline.com).
Woman beats relative, strangle him to death after raping his daughter
The 40-year-old woman living in Chonburi returned to her homeland leaving her daughter in the care of a relative while she was gone.
Upon return from her trip, she was told by her daughter that the relative identified simply as Oo, had raped her.
Noo bided her time. Then while Oo, 38, was drunk and asleep she attacked him over the head with a metal pole. She then strangled him until he was dead with an electrical cord.
She then dragged him by the sarong to a large lake behind a factory that makes wooden pallets. She tied him to a lump of wood to make him sink and tossed him out among the trash in the lake.
The bloated body was found in a one rai lake behind Advance Pallet (2009) Co Ltd in Ban Bung, Chonburi.
Ban Bung police spoke to Noo’s daughter who told them that her mother had killed him. Her mother was arrested and taken on a reenactment of the crime that she has admitted to.
