13 Characteristics of Complete Well-Being

Our behavioral pattern and life choices have a major influence on our overall well-being.This involve what we are able to do and to be, and actually been able to do be it positive or negative.We all need to develop skills and resource to improve and maintain the quality of our lives.


The Meaning of  WellBeing 
The meaning of well-being has been influenced by two perspectives:
  • The Clinical Perspective
  • The Psychological Perspective
The clinical perspective: says well-being is the absence of negative conditions in your life.

The psychological perspective: says well-being is the prevalence of positive attributes in your life.
  • The positive psychological definitions of well-being involve:
  • 1.     the pursuit of well-being
  • 2.     a balance of attributes
  • 3.     positive affect or life satisfaction
  • 4.     prosocial behavior
  • 5.     multiple dimension
  • 6.     personal optimization

Forms of Well-being
  • Subjective Well-Being (SWB): is the general evaluation of one’s quality of life,(Deiner, 2009).SWB is measured by an individual’s self assessment of what a quality of life should be. 
       This explanation has three components;
  • a cognitive appraisal that one’s life was good(life’s satisfaction).  
  • experiencing positive levels of pleasant emotion
  • experiencing low levels of negative moods.
In summary, SWB is a global assessment of one’s quality of life according to his own criteria (Shin and Johnson, 1978).
  • Objective Well-Being(ascribed dimensions):Is measured by society (and) it account for the elements of life satisfaction that cannot be defined, explained, or primarily influenced by economic growth (Camfield,Streui,& Woodhead,2010).   

13 Features of A Life Going Well
Wellbeing includes what people are able to do and to be, and what they have actually been able to do (Angner, 2008). Well-being is characterized by a life going well in a variety of ways that contributes to a;
  1. person’s good
  2. benefit
  3. advantage
  4. interest
  5. prudential
  6. value
  7. welfare
  8. happiness
  9. flourishing
  10. eudemonia
  11. utility
  12. quality of life
  13.  thriving 
 (Eudemonia is a person’s state of excellence characterized by objective flourishing across lifetime, and brought about through the exercise of moral virtue, practical wisdom, and rationality)
